Peter Jones

Professor Peter Jones is a Professor of Nuclear Physics at the University of Birmingham's School of Physics and Astronomy. He serves as Principal Investigator for the UK team contributing to the construction of the Electron-Ion Collider in the United States and is a member of the ALICE collaboration at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. His research focuses on the fundamental properties of matter at subatomic scales, particularly the internal structure of protons and nuclei, and the role of quarks and gluons in generating mass and spin.

He holds qualifications including a BSc and PhD, alongside professional certifications (CPhys, FInstP). His work includes developing detector and accelerator technology for next-generation facilities like the Electron-Ion Collider, aiming to explore proton-nucleus interactions and nuclear matter behavior.
