Prof. Peter Hense is a Professor of Environmental Technology specializing in circular economy and resource management at Hochschule Bochum. He leads the Environmental Engineering degree programs (B.Sc./M.Sc.) and serves as Sustainability Officer for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research focuses on sustainable development, waste management, and resource recovery, including projects like the Bio-Kiln compost energy initiative and international waste management strategies.
Education: PhD in Environmental Technology (University of Bologna, 2017), M.Sc. in Renewable Resources (TU Munich, 2013), B.Sc. in Forestry and Resource Management (TU Munich, 2011). He has held roles as a researcher at Fraunhofer Institute and RSL Recycling Solutions GmbH.
Awards include MIT Technology Review’s ‘Innovator under 35 Germany’ (2018) and multiple recognitions from the German Society for Waste Management (DGAW). He co-edits the Springer Vieweg series on SDG implementation and contributes to VDI standards for e-waste recycling.
Teaching spans sustainability fundamentals, industrial environmental engineering, and circular economy principles across bachelor’s and master’s programs. Key projects include establishing a technology center in coal-affected regions and advancing lithium-ion battery recycling technologies.
