Peter G. Barlow

Professor Peter G. Barlow is Chair of Immunology and Infection and Director of the Centre for Biomedicine & Global Health at Edinburgh Napier University's School of Applied Sciences. His research focuses on the innate immune system, particularly Host Defence Peptides (HDPs), with applications in antiviral therapeutics (e.g., influenza, dengue, rhinovirus) and inflammatory conditions (Crohn's Disease, IBD).

Education & Career:

• PhD from Edinburgh Napier University (2004)
• Postdoctoral work at US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (2009-2011)
• Promoted to Professor in 2019 after roles as Lecturer (2011) and Associate Professor (2017)

Research Leadership: He expanded the School of Applied Sciences' external income by 400% as Director of Research (2015-2021) and leads cross-institutional initiatives. Current projects include MRC- and CSO-funded studies on HDP antivirals.
