Peter Furia is an Associate Professor of Global Studies & Politics at the University of Virginia, affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences. He specializes in public opinion and comparative foreign policy, leveraging online and survey data to analyze group identity dynamics in international relations. His research also explores mass-elite relations, patriotism-cosmopolitanism debates, and the history of international thought.
He holds a doctorate in Politics from Princeton University and has held leadership roles, including directing the Global Security and Justice program, the Politics Distinguished Majors Program, and the Master of Arts Program in Religion, Politics, and Conflict. His work extends beyond academia through consulting for organizations like the Department of Homeland Security and Oxfam America.
Furia’s research has been published in journals such as Global Society, International Interactions, and International Studies Quarterly, alongside over a dozen book chapters. He co-edited Public Opinion and International Intervention: Lessons from the Iraq War (2012).
