Peter Fojan is an Associate Professor and Lecturer in the Department of Materials and Production at Aalborg University’s Faculty of Engineering and Science. He is based in Aalborg East, Denmark, and holds a PhD in Biotechnology from Graz University of Technology, awarded in 1997. His academic career is deeply rooted in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of materials science, biotechnology, and environmental engineering.
- PhD in Biotechnology, Graz University of Technology (1997)
His research interests are centered on advanced materials and sustainable technologies. Key areas include electrospinning of nanofibers, phase change materials, nanoparticle applications, protein engineering for plastic degradation, and environmental monitoring such as Legionella detection in water systems. His work bridges physics, mechanics, and biochemistry, with a strong emphasis on practical and industrial applications.
Recent publications (2022–2024) reveal a consistent trend in developing novel materials and biocatalysts for environmental sustainability. His work spans peptide design for PET degradation, photocatalytic PFAS removal, electrospun composites for filtration, and structural studies of enzymes. These reflect a cohesive research trajectory focused on solving real-world challenges in pollution control and material innovation.
Peter Fojan has been actively involved in significant research projects, including principal investigator roles in 'OTD: One Textile Direction' and 'ENCOM: Electrospinning Novel Composite Materials'. He has supervised PhD students and collaborated with researchers across disciplines. He has also served as an editor for the Journal of Self-Assembly and Molecular Electronics and organized multiple international conferences in the same field.
His academic service includes editorial work, conference organization, and public engagement through media appearances on topics such as enzyme-based plastic degradation and sustainable insulation technologies. He has contributed to public datasets, including protein structures in the RCSB PDB, and continues to lead cutting-edge research in materials and environmental science.
