Peter Fodran

Peter Fodran is a Lecturer in Sustainable Drug Development at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering, Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Biology. He received his PhD from the same university under Prof. Adri Minnaard, focusing on phospholipid synthesis.

• International Experience: Postdoc in Sweden (photoredox catalysis), Industry roles in UK (Pharmaron, Charles River)

Research spans organic synthesis, photoredox catalysis, lipid chemistry, and sustainable pharmaceutical methods. Key projects include: tackling antibiotic resistance through aminoglycoside modification, total synthesis of mycobacterial lipids, and developing photoenzymatic heterocycle formation.

Recent publications demonstrate cross-disciplinary work in heterocyclic chemistry, biocatalysis, and lab sustainability. His 2025 work on piperazate synthase substrate promiscuity reveals novel nitrogen-nitrogen bond formation pathways.
