Peter Flödl

Peter Flödl is a researcher at the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and River Research, within the Department of Landscape, Water and Infrastructure at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). His work centers on sediment quality, particle-bound pollutants, and environmental research in river systems, with a strong focus on river engineering and restoration.

His research interests include sediment dynamics, fluvial ecology, ecohydraulics, nutrient cycling in benthic zones, and the development of novel sampling methods for small streams. He applies modeling approaches to assess habitat conditions and the impacts of natural water retention measures. His work integrates field studies, hydraulic modeling, and environmental assessment to support sustainable river management.

Dr. Flödl has been actively involved in the scientific community, presenting at international conferences such as the 15th International Symposium on Ecohydraulics and the European Geosciences Union General Assembly. He serves as a reviewer for journals including Environmental Science & Technology, Hydrobiologia, and Water, and was guest editor for a special issue in Limnologica on the European Water Framework Directive. His contributions were recognized with the NEPTUN National Award for Water Research in 2023.
