Peter C. Norberg is Professor of English at Saint Joseph’s University, where he also serves as Senior Associate Provost for Academic and Faculty Support and has chaired the Department of English, Writing and Journalism since 2012.

Research Focus
Professor Norberg’s scholarship centers on American literature before the Civil War, with particular attention to Herman Melville, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Margaret Fuller, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Harriet Beecher Stowe. He situates these authors within the wider contexts of New England Transcendentalism, British and German romantic influences, the transatlantic literary marketplace, and democratic political theory.
Across his publications he has explored textual allusion, reception history, and pedagogical approaches, consistently highlighting the interplay between historical forces and literary form.
