Peter Bossaerts is the Leverhulme International Professor of Neuroeconomics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Cambridge, and a fellow of Robinson College. A pioneer in neuroeconomics and decision neuroscience, he established controlled experimentation in financial markets and applied decision/game theory to cognitive neuroscience, founding computational neuropsychiatry.
He earned his PhD from UCLA and held prior positions at Caltech (majority of career), University of Melbourne as Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor, Carnegie Mellon University, EPFL, and University of Utah.
His research integrates economics, neuroscience, and computer science to study decision-making under computational complexity. Key areas include neural mechanisms of financial decisions, cognitive effects of pharmacological interventions, and market design under combinatorial constraints. Recent work examines how computational complexity impacts resource allocation and cognitive effort quality.
His 2023-2024 publications reveal interdisciplinary convergence: combining experimental economics with neuroscience to analyze "smart" drug impacts on cognition, while applying computer science to policy (EJRA review) and market design under complexity.

He supervises PhD students Roman Berlanger (computational complexity/experimental economics), Ana Lleo-Bono (behavioral/organizational economics), and Li Quan (digital economy/finance). Funded by the Leverhulme Trust International Professorship (2020-present), his work bridges theoretical economics with empirical neuroscience.
He leads the Leverhulme International Professorship in Neuroeconomics (LIPNE) research group and contributes to the Faculty of Economics' Microeconomic Theory group, driving collaborations on computational decision neuroscience and complex market behavior.
