Dr Peter Bolgar is College Lecturer in Chemistry at Magdalene College and Bye-Fellow at Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge, serving as Director of Studies in Chemistry for the Natural Sciences Tripos (Part IB Chemistry).
His educational background from the University of Cambridge includes:
- BA in Natural Sciences (2013-2017)
- MSci in Natural Sciences (2013-2017)
- PhD in Supramolecular Chemistry (2017-2022, supervised by Professor Christopher Hunter)
His research focuses on Physical Organic Chemistry and Supramolecular Chemistry, investigating molecular recognition mechanisms and synthetic self-assembly systems. Current work emphasizes designing sequence-selective binding architectures using engineered oligomers to mimic biological precision in non-biological contexts.
His 2021 Journal of the American Chemical Society publication exemplifies his approach to creating high-fidelity molecular recognition systems through melamine-based oligomer design, advancing applications in synthetic biology and nanotechnology.
As Director of Studies at Magdalene, he provides academic oversight for chemistry students in the Natural Sciences program. He also actively coaches national and international teams for the International Chemistry Olympiad, developing future scientific talent through specialized training programs.
Dr Bolgar participates in the Hunter Research Group within the Department of Chemistry and maintains strong connections with Cambridge's collegiate academic community through his dual college appointments.
