Peter Adamson is a Professor of Philosophy, specializing in late ancient, Arabic, and medieval philosophy. His research focuses on Neoplatonism, Avicenna, and Islamic intellectual history. He has been involved in significant projects such as 'Natural philosophy in the Islamic world' (Leverhulme Trust, 2010-2013) and 'Attitudes to mental disorder in the Ancient World' (2010-2013). He received the Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling-Preis in 2020.
Education: PhD (University of Notre Dame, 2000), MPhil (University of Notre Dame, 1997), BA (Williams College, 1994).
Research interests include Avicenna's metaphysics, medieval Islamic discourse, and the legacy of Averroes. He has organized conferences on classical Arabic philosophy and ancient commentators on Aristotle.
