Perry Flynn

Perry Flynn is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). He serves as a Consultant to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in Speech-Language Pathology. His roles include leadership in professional organizations, such as past Vice President for Planning of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), Board Member of NC Speech Hearing Language Association, and President of the State Education Agencies Disabilities Council.

Dr. Flynn holds an M.Ed. and is a certified speech-language pathologist (CCC-SLP). His research focuses on school-based service delivery, special education policy, and innovative interventions like equine-assisted learning. He has authored/co-authored influential publications on IEP development, evidence-based practices, and the role of SLPs in educational standards.

He is a PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and leads UNCG’s inter-professional equine-assisted learning initiatives. Notable awards include ASHA’s Honors of the Association (2018), the UNCG Outstanding Alumni Award, and the Lindamood Clinical Leadership Award. His work spans international collaborations through Fulbright-Hays programs in China and Botswana. He advises the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association and contributes to ASHA’s webinars and publications on federal/state law compliance and service delivery models.

His professional contributions include developing resources for workload management, Medicaid reimbursement, and service delivery frameworks, alongside advocacy for underrepresented groups in the SLP field. He has authored children’s therapy resources like Rudy and the Butterflies and pioneered telepractice guidance during the pandemic.
