Prof. Perihan Nalbant is a Professor in the Molecular Cell Biology department at the University of Duisburg-Essen's Faculty of Biology. Her research focuses on understanding the spatial and temporal regulation of Rho GTPase activity during cellular migration and its role in cancer metastasis. Using advanced techniques like fluorescence biosensors and optogenetics, she investigates how aberrant signaling mechanisms contribute to uncontrolled cell migration in diseases such as cancer.
Her work combines cutting-edge imaging with siRNA and chemo-optogenetic perturbations to dissect signaling networks regulating cell contraction and migration. She is part of the ZMB's Molecular and Chemical Cell Biology program and collaborates on projects funded by DFG, EU, and NRW programs. Notable contributions include studies on Cdc42 and RhoA signaling, as highlighted in press releases about breakthroughs in cell migration and superresolution microscopy advancements.
Despite no explicit awards listed, her publications and institutional involvement underscore her expertise in cellular dynamics and cancer biology. She leads a research group and contributes to the ZMB's state-of-the-art imaging facilities, including a newly installed superresolution microscope for live-cell analysis.
