Peri O'Shea

Dr. Peri O'Shea is a Lived Experience Academic at UNSW Sydney, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the International Centre for Future Health Systems. She specializes in qualitative, participatory research focused on mental health, consumer engagement, and co-design methodologies.

Her research addresses critical gaps in physical health care for people with severe mental illness, emphasizing lived experience participation in service design, disability rights, carer support, and integrated health systems. Current projects include co-developing digital health tools and redesigning primary care models.

Key partnerships include Neuroscience Research Australia (Neura), Mindgardens Neuroscience Network, and collaborations with University of Tasmania, Swinburne University, and Sydney Local Health District.

Dr. O'Shea co-convenes the Prevention & Management of Chronic Disease Masters course at UNSW and has held leadership roles in mental health advocacy, including as former CEO of Being: Mental Health Consumers NSW.
