Professor Per Svenningsen is affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), where he leads research at the Department of Molecular Medicine and contributes to the SDU Climate Cluster. His work bridges renal physiology, hypertension, and extracellular vesicle biology.
His research interests focus on:
- Epithelial Sodium Channel (ENaC) regulation in hypertension
- Role of extracellular vesicles as renal biomarkers
- Complement system activation in diabetic kidney disease
- Genetic variants in Liddle syndrome and nephrotic syndrome
- Impact of SGLT2 inhibitors on intrarenal inflammation
Recent publications highlight:
- Mechanisms of ACE2/TMPRSS2 expression in kidney tissues during COVID-19
- Amiloride’s anti-inflammatory effects in diabetic hypertension
- Standardized methods for MISEV2023 extracellular vesicle research
- Diagnostic applications of urinary vesicle analysis in transplant medicine
He supervises PhD projects on genetic tubulopathies and collaborates internationally with institutions like the National Institutes of Health. His team received 86 million DKK in 2024 for climate-related health research at SDU.
