Per Sebastian Skardal is the Marjorie V. and Robert W. Butcher Distinguished Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
His research program investigates nonlinear dynamics, complex networks, and synchronization phenomena. Core interests include dynamical systems, neural networks, and spatiotemporal patterns in biological systems like cardiac tissue. His work applies mathematical modeling to synchronization in oscillator networks and control of dynamical systems.
Recent publications demonstrate Skardal's focus on machine learning approaches for disturbance detection in network-coupled systems and higher-order interactions in complex networks. His research combines theoretical mathematics with applications in physics, biology, and control systems.
