Pepe Alcami

Dr. Pepe Alcami is a Research Group Leader at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and associated with the Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence. He holds the academic rank of Assistant Professor and focuses on understanding neural communication in songbird brain circuits, linking cellular interactions to behavior.

Research interests include:

• Electrical Synapses and their role in neural dynamics
• Behavioral Plasticity in social contexts
• Seasonal Synaptic Changes in neurons and glial cells

Recent work spans social modulation of birdsong, biophysical modeling, and myelin structure analysis. He has investigated how electrical synapses interact with chemical synapses and intrinsic neuronal properties. Collaborations include institutions in Munich, Graz, Jerusalem, and Princeton.
