Pep Valsalobre Palacios

Pep Valsalobre Palacios is a Professor in the Department of Philology and Communication at the University of Girona, where he is also affiliated with the Institute of Catalan Language and Culture. He specializes in Modern Catalan Literature and leads the research line on modern literature at UdG. His work is deeply rooted in the critical study and edition of Catalan Baroque poetry and early modern literary manuscripts.

His research interests focus on Catalan Philology, Baroque and Renaissance poetry, manuscript songbooks, critical editions, and literary heritage. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of authors such as Francesc Fontanella, Joan Ramis, and Agustí Eura. His approach combines textual scholarship with cultural and historical analysis.

The body of his recent publications reveals a consistent focus on the recovery and critical interpretation of early modern Catalan literary works. His projects emphasize digital and print critical editions, anthologies, and interdisciplinary studies that bridge philology, history, and cultural studies. The thematic trends include love poetry, religious expression, national identity, and the transmission of literary texts across time and space.

He has served as Principal Investigator on multiple national research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Economy, and Science, including comprehensive studies on Francesc Fontanella and Francesc Vicent Garcia. He actively supervises doctoral theses and contributes to major reference works, such as the Dictionary of Catalan Literature. He is a member of the Consolidated Research Group on Modern Age Language and Literature, coordinated by Dr. Albert Rossich.
