Pengfei Mi is an Honorary Lecturer at the Dyson School of Design Engineering, part of the Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London. He serves as the UK Director for the Design Intelligence Award (DIA) and the Tsinghua-ANTA Global Sportswear Design Award (GSDA), promoting innovative design solutions to global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development.
His research focuses on developing creativity tools in design and innovation, emphasizing the translation of research into enterprise with societal impact. Key collaborations include partnerships with Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), and various incubators and accelerators in design, robotics, healthcare, and digital technologies.
Pengfei is actively involved in educational programs, including directing the Design Engineering for Innovation Winter School 2025, the Design for Sustainable Development Goals Summer School 2024, and leading modules in the 2023 Summer School. He also co-facilitated the Design Engineering and Advanced Aeronautical Engineering Training Programme for COMAC from 2020–2021.
His work addresses global challenges through innovation, particularly in climate change mitigation, net-zero pathways, responsible AI, and active living. He advocates for design solutions that align with sustainable development goals.
As a leader in design awards, he evaluates and supports innovative and responsible designs to enhance societal impact. His collaborations span academic and industry sectors, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to technological and societal challenges.
