Peggy L. Determeyer is a retired Board Certified Chaplain and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. She holds a PhD in Medical Humanities with a concentration in Health Care Ethics and Policy from UTMB’s Institute for the Medical Humanities, an MBA from the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania), and an MDiv from Perkins School of Theology (Southern Methodist University). Currently, she serves as the Director of the Community Bioethics and Aging Center and McGee Fellow at the Hope and Healing Center and Institute (HHCI). She chairs the ethics consultation service for community members facing healthcare planning issues and develops training programs for healthcare professionals and pastors to improve compassionate care for aging and terminally ill patients.
Her research focuses on end-of-life planning, nurse empowerment, and physician-patient communication. She is affiliated with the American Society for Bioethics and the Humanities, the Health Humanities Consortium, and the Houston Gerontological Society, among others. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration to address ethical challenges in healthcare and aging.
