Peer-Hendrik Kuhn is a Carl von Linde Junior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS), Technische Universität München (TUM), since 2013. He leads the Neuroproteomics research group and collaborates with host Stefan Lichtenthaler. His work focuses on developing proteomics methods to study neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. Kuhn earned his MD from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (2008–2009) and a PhD from TUM (2012), with postdoctoral training at DZNE Munich.
Research Interests: Kuhn pioneered the SPECS method for secretome analysis, identifying BACE1 substrates in neurons. Current projects extend this method to hematopoietic cancers and patient specimen analysis. His lab combines metabolic labeling, mass spectrometry, and bioorthogonal chemistry to study protease substrates and cell surface proteins.
Publications: Over 15 peer-reviewed articles since 2010, emphasizing BACE1/ADAM10 substrates, Alzheimer mouse models, and proteomics methodologies. Key contributions include defining ADAM10’s role in axon targeting and TDP-43’s impact on endosomal trafficking.
Awards: Recipient of the Molecular Medicine MD program stipend (2003–2005) from LMU. His work has been funded through TUM-IAS fellowships and collaborative grants with institutions like DZNE.
Lab & Collaborations: Neuroproteomics group at TUM-IAS focuses on method development for clinical applications. Collaborations include University of Munich medical centers, DZNE, and industry partners for biomarker identification in neurodegenerative diseases.
