Pedro Ortiz Suarez

Dr. Pedro Ortiz Suarez was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Mannheim's Data and Web Science Group, collaborating with Prof. Dr. Simone Paolo Ponzetto and Prof. Dr. Christian Bizer. His work focuses on developing large corpora for language models, particularly for under-resourced and historical languages. He leads the OSCAR project and co-founded the BigScience initiative.

Education: PhD from Inria and Sorbonne Université, France.

Research Interests: Pedro’s research spans language modeling, corpus linguistics, and applying computational linguistics (CL) methods to Digital Humanities. He emphasizes advancing NLP tools for languages with limited digital resources.

Labs/Teams: Core member of the Data and Web Science Group, leader of the OSCAR project, and founding member of the BigScience collaborative research project.
