Pedram Khalili is the AT&T Research Professor and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northwestern University's McCormick School of Engineering. He serves as Co-Director of the Applied Physics Program and leads the Physical Electronics Research Laboratory (PERLab). His research focuses on nanoelectronics, spintronics, and emerging memory technologies, with emphasis on voltage-controlled magnetic tunnel junctions and antiferromagnetic devices.
He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Delft University of Technology and a B.Sc. from Sharif University of Technology. Previously, he was Adjunct Assistant Professor at UCLA (2013–2017) and co-led the NSF TANMS center. He co-founded Inston Inc. (2012–2017), pioneering voltage-controlled MRAM for high-performance computing.
His work spans spintronic devices, non-volatile memory architectures, and energy-efficient computing systems. Key projects include DARPA-funded STT-MRAM and non-volatile logic initiatives, yielding world-record memory technologies. Current research explores spin-orbit torque devices, stochastic computing, and spintronic neuromorphic systems.
Publications emphasize antiferromagnetic materials, magnetic tunnel junction innovations, and spintronics-based architectures. His contributions bridge fundamental materials science with applied engineering for next-generation computing systems.
