Paweł Chyc is a cognitive anthropologist and PhD candidate at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, specializing in long-term ethnographic research among the Moré people of the Bolivian Amazon. He currently works at the University of Bialystok as a member of the Society&Cognition Unit. His research focuses on animism, cognitive mechanisms in cultural practices, and the intersection of cognition and culture. Chyc is the Principal Investigator of the project 'Tradition From the Native Point of View,' exploring Moré perspectives on time and history. He also collaborates on the UNESCO-funded 'Salvaguarda do Patrimônio Linguístico' project, documenting Moré language and culture with linguist Joshua Birchall and the Museu do Índio.
Chyc holds a Master of Arts in ethnology and has been involved in Amazonian studies since 2010. His work integrates anthropological fieldwork with cognitive science frameworks (CSR), analyzing how social and cognitive processes shape animistic beliefs and practices. He has received a doctoral scholarship from the National Science Centre in Poland, supporting his interdisciplinary research.
Key contributions include ethnohistorical studies, language preservation efforts, and theoretical engagements with animism as a cognitive-cultural system. His projects emphasize collaborative relationships with Indigenous communities to ensure culturally sensitive documentation and analysis.
