Rev. Pawel Tomczyk, Ph.D., serves as Director of Pastoral Formation and Assistant Professor of Moral Theology at Seton Hall University's Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology. Ordained in 2015 for the Diocese of Paterson, he concurrently assists at Holy Spirit Parish and Our Lady of the Mount Parish while holding dual roles on ICSST's Academic and Formation Faculties.
His educational foundation includes:
- PhD in Moral Theology and Ethics (2017) from The Catholic University of America, dissertation: 'The Elements of Virtue Ethics in Karol Wojtyla/John Paul II's Thought'
- MA in Moral Theology (2013) from SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, thesis: 'The Morality of Lying: The Three Schools of Thought'
Fr. Tomczyk's research centers on Catholic Sexual Teaching, Fundamental Moral Theology, and St. John Paul II's Theological Legacy, with specialized focus on conscience formation, priestly identity, and ethical dimensions of grief. His work consistently bridges Thomistic virtue ethics with contemporary pastoral challenges, particularly in sacramental theology and sexual ethics.
Recent publications reveal three thematic trajectories: (1) conscience as divine friendship (2025), (2) priestly dignity in moral formation (2024), and (3) sorrow's theological function in mourning (2020). These demonstrate evolving expertise in applying Wojtyla's virtue ethics to modern ecclesial issues while maintaining rigorous engagement with Catholic moral tradition.
He received the Excellence in Service Learning Award from ICSST in May 2025.
- Excellence in Service Learning Award (ICSST, 2025)
Fr. Tomczyk actively shapes institutional formation through service on the Priest Advisory Council (since Nov 2024) and Educational Policy Committee (since Oct 2024). His pedagogical impact spans courses including Fundamental Moral Theology I, Catholic Sexual Teaching, and Reconciliation and Anointing, though specific graduate student mentorship details aren't documented in available sources.
