Prof. Pavel Kouba, associate professor and project researcher at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, has focused his career on phenomenological and hermeneutic ontology. He co-founded the Jan Patočka Archive at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences and has been a director at the Institute of Philosophy and Religious Studies since 1998.
- Education: German and Russian studies at Charles University (dissertation on Kant's Critique of Pure Reason)
His research synthesizes Husserl's phenomenology, Heidegger's fundamental ontology, and Patočka's interpretations, with a recent emphasis on reinterpreting ontological questions regarding space-time relationships and their implications for the lived world and interdisciplinary communication.
Key publication trends include hermeneutic ontology, Nietzsche's philosophical legacy, and the intersection of phenomenology with political and ethical theory. His 2000 monograph Die Welt nach Nietzsche (in print) and earlier work Fundamentals of hermeneutic ontology (1995) anchor his contributions.
- 1990 Annual Prize of the Academy of Sciences for Patočka's samizdat editions
Kouba serves on editorial boards of Internationale Zeitschrift für Philosophie, Phainomena, and Hannah Arendt Newsletter, and has held leadership roles in the Center for Doctoral Studies at Charles University since 1996.
