Pavel Afanasiev

Pavel Afanasiev is a full-time researcher at the University of Lyon 1, affiliated with the Institute of Catalysis and Environment in Lyon (IRCELYON) and specifically the Heterogeneous Catalysis for Energy Transition (CATREN) department. His work focuses on heterogeneous catalysis for energy and environmental applications.

• Specializes in atmospheric chemistry and pollution control
• Develops in situ/operando characterization techniques for catalytic materials
• Investigates thermodynamic, kinetic, and modeling approaches in catalysis
• Works with controlled porosity materials and catalytic processes
• Integrates deep learning and computer vision in catalysis research

His research addresses critical challenges in sustainable chemistry, including CO2/CH4 conversion, biomass valorization, and pollutant recovery from air and water systems. He actively participates in scientific events like the VALOTHERBIO thematic school and contributes to the lab's characterization platform IRCATECH.
