Dr. Pauline Adair is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology and Joint Programme Director for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Queen's University Belfast's School of Psychology. She holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (1997, Queen's University) and a PhD (2005, University of St Andrews). Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as both a clinical and health psychologist, her research focuses on psychological interventions and behavioral change to improve quality of life for those with medical conditions (e.g., chronic pain, cancer, asthma) and disease prevention through lifestyle changes like diet and oral hygiene.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in improving health and well-being. She leads projects such as the DCP Dental RECUR intervention for child oral health and the TRIUMPH Network for youth mental health. Key research areas include neonatal pain management, chronic pain and physical activity, and maternal health experiences. Dr. Adair has received accolades including the DHP Award (2010) and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (2011).
Her 74+ publications span behavioral psychology, clinical guidelines, and health interventions. She actively supervises PhD students and participates in national/international academic activities, including editorial roles and conference organization. Current grants include Chief Scientist Office-funded projects and collaborations on venous thromboembolism prevention and pediatric dental caries reduction.
