Paula Hopeck serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies, Media and Journalism at Bloomsburg University, where she has taught since joining the faculty in 2017. Her instructional expertise spans public speaking and theory-based communication courses that bridge academic concepts with real-world application through diverse formats including large lectures, online classes, flipped classrooms, and service learning.

Her research centers on conflict management dynamics within healthcare service organizations, specifically examining communicative challenges during end-of-life discussions between care workers and patient families. Current investigations focus on nurse socialization processes and conflict management technique acquisition in clinical settings, addressing critical issues like medical terminology misunderstandings and strategic communication failures.
Scholarly contributions appear in leading journals including Health Communication, Management Communication Quarterly, and the International Journal of Conflict Management, establishing her expertise in healthcare conflict resolution frameworks.
Dr. Hopeck maintains active leadership within the National Communication Association (NCA), progressing from graduate student reviewer to 2018 chair of the Peace and Conflict Communication Division. She further supports student development through advising Bloomsburg University's NCA Student Club, emphasizing professional growth beyond classroom instruction.
