Paul van der Laan serves as a Core Teacher in the Master Type and Media program at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, where he has taught type design since 2003. He co-founded Bold Monday, an independent Dutch type foundry based in The Hague, in 2008 with Pieter van Rosmalen.
His professional focus centers on typography and type design, with significant contributions to both academic and commercial spheres. Van der Laan has developed multiple typeface families including Feisar, Feisar Express, Flex, and Oskar, and executed custom type projects for major international clients such as NBC Universal, Audi AG, Autodesk Inc, Banco Deuno, and VPRO across print, screen, and interactive media applications.
Graduating from KABK's Graphic Design department in 2000, he actively disseminates expertise through workshops and lectures at European institutions and international conferences. His work bridges theoretical typographic principles with practical industry applications, particularly in digital and cross-media contexts.
