Paul Yachnin is the Tomlinson Professor of Shakespeare Studies at McGill University’s Faculty of Arts. His research bridges early modern drama, sociology of literature, and public scholarship, with projects like Making Publics (MaPs) and Early Modern Conversions fostering interdisciplinary collaborations. He leads initiatives such as TRaCE McGill, tracking PhD career pathways, and co-edits the Early Modern Conversions book series. Yachnin holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and fellowships at the Folger Shakespeare Library and ANU. Awards include McGill’s Teacher of the Year and the Shakespeare Association of America presidency.
His work examines Renaissance drama, law and literature, and animalities, with publications including The Culture of Playgoing in Early Modern England and Conversion Machines. He collaborates with institutions like the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and Opera McGill, emphasizing public-facing scholarship. Current projects include TRaCE Transborder, an international study of graduate education outcomes.
Yachnin’s research integrates critical theory, textual editing, and policy analysis, addressing contemporary issues through early modern frameworks. He advocates for transformative approaches to humanities education and public intellectualism.
