Dr. Paul White is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Nevada, Reno's Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering. With two decades of archaeological fieldwork experience, his research examines the social, technological, and environmental transformations of the North American mining industry. His work critically analyzes how historical relationships perpetuate colonial dynamics and informs contemporary environmental management.
His geographical focus spans the American West and Pacific regions, with research interests in industrial archaeology, environmental history, colonialism, and ethnohistory. Dr. White has consulted for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on abandoned mining land hazards.
He teaches courses including GEOG 312 (Cartography) and GEOG 314 (Field Methods). His book The Archaeology of American Mining (2017) received the Mining History Association's Clark Spence Award. Additional honors include the Robert M. Vogel Prize from the Society for Industrial Archeology.
