Paul Walker is a Lecturer and Deputy Academic Director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) at the University of Chicago. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (1974) and specializes in Islamic philosophy and Fatimid history. His research focuses on Ismaili thought, medieval Islamic intellectual traditions, and the historical and textual legacy of the Fatimid Caliphate.
Walker teaches courses such as Introduction to Islamic Philosophy and History of the Fatimid Caliphate, integrating his expertise in primary sources and historical analysis. His publications include seminal works like Caliph of Cairo: Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah (2012) and Early Philosophical Shiism (1993), which explore Islamic theology, political thought, and intellectual history. He is affiliated with the Department of Near Eastern Studies and the CMES, contributing to interdisciplinary scholarship on the Middle East.
