معرفی
Professor Paul Steinmann holds dual appointments as a Full Professor of Computational Engineering Science (Infrastructure & Environment) at the University of Glasgow and as Head of the Institute of Applied Mechanics at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). He is also the Director of the Glasgow Computational Engineering Centre (GCEC). His research focuses on geometrically non-linear continuum mechanics, computational engineering, and material modeling, with contributions to multi-scale methods, surface mechanics, and finite element techniques. Steinmann earned his Civil Engineering degree from Universität Hannover (1988), followed by a PhD from Universität Karlsruhe (1992) and habilitation from Universität Hannover (1996). He has served as a faculty member at several institutions, including Universität Kaiserslautern (1997–2007) and currently leads research in advanced computational mechanics at FAU and Glasgow.
His educational background includes a Civil Engineering degree with distinction from Universität Hannover and advanced degrees from Karlsruhe and Hannover. His academic career includes leadership roles such as Department spokesperson at FAU (2009–2011) and Vice-Dean at Kaiserslautern (2001–2006). His research spans electro-mechanical systems, gradient plasticity, and polymer curing, with a focus on developing computational frameworks for complex material behaviors.
Key research interests include continuum physics, material modeling, and failure mechanics, with applications in biomedical engineering and structural materials. Steinmann’s work emphasizes multi-scale approaches, peridynamics, and advanced finite element methods to address challenges in non-linear mechanics and material behavior. His contributions bridge theoretical developments with practical engineering applications, particularly in the analysis of complex materials and structures under extreme conditions.
His publications reflect a focus on computational methods, including peridynamics, multi-scale modeling, and finite element analysis. Collaborations span academia and industry, addressing challenges in biomechanics, smart materials, and advanced manufacturing. Steinmann leads research groups and centers, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to computational engineering science.
