Paul Spears serves as Associate Professor and Director of Torrey Honors College at Biola University, a position he has held since 2012 after teaching there since 1998. His leadership in this honors program reflects his commitment to integrating faith and rigorous academic inquiry through the study of great books and Socratic dialogue.
Dr. Spears holds a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University, an M.A. from Biola University, and a B.S. from Multnomah College. His educational background has shaped his distinctive approach to understanding how educational history, philosophy, and learning theories converge to form educational practice.
His scholarly work centers on the intersection of educational philosophy and theological commitments, examining how these frameworks shape classroom dynamics between teachers and students. Dr. Spears has presented internationally on apologetics, theology, and educational philosophy, with speaking engagements ranging from Mongolia to Washington D.C., demonstrating the global relevance of his work.
Among his significant publications is the book 'Education for Human Flourishing: A Christian Perspective' (2009), co-authored with Steven Loomis, which has become an important contribution to Christian educational thought.
