Paul S. Manos is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Duke University, associated with the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on plant systematics, phylogenetics, and evolutionary biology, particularly in Fagaceae (oak family) and Ericaceae. He holds the Jack H. Neely Professorship (2012–2017) and has served as Chair of Biology (2017–2020) and currently as Associate Dean for Faculty Operations.
Education: Ph.D. (Cornell University, 1992), M.S. (Rutgers University, 1986), B.A. (Drew University, 1982).
Research emphasizes woody plant systematics, using molecular data to study phylogenetic relationships and biogeography. Key projects include oak evolution, blueberry phylogeny, and genomic analysis of plant diversification. He leads NSF-funded grants exploring oak syngameons and polyploid evolution.
Recent publications focus on hybridization in oaks, global blueberry phylogeny, and genomic approaches to resolve plant evolutionary histories. Awards include the Bass Fellowship and recognition for teaching and research leadership.
