Paul Patterson is a Professor of Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). He is renowned for his orchestral works, including settings of Roald Dahl’s Little Red Riding Hood and his Violin Concerto, which are performed globally. His recent commissions include the Viola Concerto, Jubilee Dances (BBC Concert Orchestra’s 50th anniversary), and music for Roald Dahl’s The Three Little Pigs (Basel Symphony Orchestra).
His compositional style spans orchestral, film, and choral music, with notable works like Magnificat Op 75, Comedy for Five Winds, and the BBC Christmas musical The Dancing Princesses. He has also contributed to television themes, such as for Omnibus and Horizon.
Patterson is an advocate for contemporary music, recognized with the PRS/RPS Leslie Boosey Award and Poland’s highest honor for musical contributions. His works have been recorded in multiple languages, including English, Norwegian, and German.
