Paul Olson, PhD, serves as Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Jamestown, leading academic strategy since joining in 2014 after nine years as Sociology Chair at Briar Cliff University.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD in Sociology from University of Nebraska (specializations: sociology of religion, racial/ethnic/gender inequality)
- MA in Religious Studies from University of Kansas
- BA in History from University of Northern Iowa
Dr. Olson's research spans sociological analyses of religion, systemic inequalities, and higher education innovation. His work examines cultural institutions through frameworks of race, ethnicity, and gender while contributing to pedagogical advancements in academic program development.
As chief academic officer, he spearheaded creation of the Clinical Research PhD, master's programs in Teacher Leadership/Clinical Counseling/Leadership, and undergraduate degrees in Mechanical/Civil Engineering, Digital Design, and Behavioral Health. He directed university expansions into Fargo (North Dakota) and Phoenix (Arizona), establishing the Unruh School of Character in Leadership.
