معرفی
Paul Newman is a Professor of Physics at the University of Birmingham, leading the Birmingham Particle Physics Group and serving as Director of Research for the School of Physics & Astronomy. His research focuses on experimental studies of the strong nuclear force, particularly quark and gluon sub-structure of protons, gluon dynamics under high-density conditions, and collider physics at facilities like the LHC and future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). He is actively involved in the ATLAS experiment at CERN and contributes to strategy for particle physics in the UK and Europe.
Education: BA (Oxford), PhD, Fellow of the Institute of Physics (FInstP). Newman has taught undergraduate courses in classical mechanics, particle physics techniques, statistical physics, and current topics in particle physics. He frequently engages in public outreach, delivering talks on particle physics and science policy.
Research Interests: Experimental high-energy physics, quantum chromodynamics (QCD), collider detector design (e.g., EIC's ePIC and LHeC), proton structure studies, and diffractive scattering processes. His work bridges HERA legacy data analysis with future collider projects, emphasizing precision measurements of parton distributions and strong coupling constants.
Notable Activities: Chair of UK Particle Physics Strategy Group committees, leadership in EIC and LHeC initiatives, and collaborative efforts in detector technology (e.g., ATLAS Forward Proton Spectrometer). He also explores applications of precision clocks for measuring fundamental constant stability through QSNET.
Awards: Fellowship of the Institute of Physics (FInstP).
Labs/Teams: Birmingham Particle Physics Group, ATLAS Collaboration, EIC Physics Working Groups, and LHeC design teams.
