Paul Michael Petersen is a Professor and Head of the Diode Lasers and LED Systems section at the Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His research focuses on semiconductor lasers, LED systems, and their applications in biomedical optics, environmental monitoring, and energy-efficient lighting. He leads projects addressing Alzheimer’s treatment via light stimulation, microplastics detection, and sustainable architectural lighting solutions.
Key collaborations include work on Ocean Photonics (zooplankton monitoring) and PigLED (optimal lighting for livestock). He has supervised multiple PhD students, including João Santos, Xiang Shi, and Mikkel Carstensen.
He actively participates in conferences and workshops on topics like UV-light sources and circadian lighting. His work aligns with UN SDGs, particularly in sustainable cities and climate action.
