Paul Megna is an Assistant Professor of Literature in the Literature department at Purchase College. His research focuses on medieval and Early Modern literature and culture, the history of emotions, and existential philosophy, with current work on dread in Middle English religious writing.
Educational background:
- BA from SUNY Buffalo
- MA from the University of Rochester
- PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara
Megna's research explores emotional frameworks across historical periods, particularly dread and anxiety in medieval religious texts and their connections to modern existential thought. His publications analyze emotional ethics in Chaucer, Piers Plowman, and Shakespeare adaptations, while examining intersections of medievalism with contemporary philosophy like Simone de Beauvoir's work.
His publication trends reveal consistent engagement with the history of emotions, bridging medieval literary studies with philosophical discourse. Articles demonstrate methodological synthesis of affect theory, historical linguistics, and literary analysis across journals like PMLA and Exemplaria.
Megna teaches undergraduate courses on medieval literature, Shakespeare, and emotional dimensions of literature at Purchase College. He actively presents research at international conferences including the New Chaucer Society Congress and International Congress on Medieval Studies.
