His research focuses on developing computer science algorithms for genomic data analysis, theoretical problems inspired by biology, and scalable bioinformatics tools to address challenges in genome assembly, multiple alignment, transcript reconstruction, and variant analysis. Key projects include de Bruijn graph compaction, Bloom filter optimizations, and high-performance genomics software.
He received the Best Paper award at HiTSeq 2013 for his work on KmerGenie, a k-mer size selection tool. His software SibeliaZ, IsoCon, HowDeSBT, and BCALM 2 are widely used in bioinformatics.
