Dr. Paul Macklin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education at Indiana University's Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from UC Irvine (2007), M.S. from University of Minnesota (2003), and B.A. from University of Nebraska (1999).
His research focuses on developing open-source simulation tools for multicellular systems biology, with applications in cancer immunology, nanotherapy, and tissue engineering. He created PhysiCell (agent-based simulations) and BioFVM (diffusion models) used worldwide. His lab integrates simulation modeling, tissue cultures, and AI to develop digital twins for personalized cancer medicine.
Dr. Macklin involves undergraduates in research and develops novel STEM mentoring methodologies. He has received multiple grants including $4M NCI funding and leads international collaborations on SARS-CoV-2 tissue simulation.
