Paul Lowe is a Professor of Conflict, Peace, and the Image at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London. He is an award-winning photographer and educator, with extensive experience in conflict zones including the former Yugoslavia, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and famine in Africa. His work focuses on photojournalism, documentary photography, and the role of art in post-conflict societies. He has authored numerous books and articles, including Photography, Bearing Witness and the Yugoslav Wars (2021) and Reporting the Siege of Sarajevo (2021).
Research interests include ethics of representing suffering, forensic photography, and the materiality of photographs. He has led grants on topics such as museums' roles in peacebuilding and reconciliation in post-conflict societies. His exhibitions, like Ožiljak (Scar) (2015), explore the visual legacy of conflict.
Paul advises PhD students on topics including genocide documentation and conflict photography. His work bridges academic research and artistic practice, emphasizing visual testimony and historical memory.
