Paul Long is a Professor in Creative and Cultural Industries and Director of the Monash Migration and Inclusion Centre at Monash University. He joined the School of Media, Film and Journalism in 2019 and previously held roles at Birmingham City University, where he co-founded the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research. His research focuses on cultural justice, migration in the cultural economy, media and cultural heritage, and DIY cultural production.
Education: PhD in Social History (University of Warwick, 2002), MA in Cultural Studies (University of Birmingham, 1997), BA in Film and Literature (University of Warwick, 1995).
Research interests include migrant artists in Australia, museum practices, intangible heritage, and the role of refugees in cultural economies. He leads the ARC-funded project 'Mapping Australian Homemade, Amateur & DIY Cultural Economies' and co-edits the Journal of Beatles Studies.
Teaching includes units in the Master of Cultural and Creative Industries program at Monash University and the international Monash Prato program. He also runs 'DIY CLUB', a workshop linked to his ARC project.
Collaborations include projects with the Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia (FECCA) and Liverpool University Press. His work intersects with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and cultural inclusion.
