Paul Kindvall Gorbow is a Researcher in Philosophy at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the temporary academic staff. His research focuses on foundational areas of logic and mathematics, including philosophical and mathematical logic, set theory, and axiomatic theories of truth and consciousness. He explores concepts like potential infinity and non-standardness phenomena in mathematical foundations through a category-theoretic lens.
Dr. Gorbow earned his doctoral degree from the University of Gothenburg, where his dissertation developed a category-theoretical framework for the set theory NF and analyzed embeddings/automorphisms in non-standard ZF models. As a postdoc at Gothenburg, he collaborated on untyped truth theories in set theory extending ZF, and untyped belief/knowledge theories extending PA.
His current project investigates 'Potential Infinity in the Foundations of Mathematics,' aiming to explain non-standardness via potential infinity and indexicalist philosophy. This work bridges foundational mathematics with philosophical inquiry into infinity's role in formal systems.
