Paul J. Sharek is a Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine, serving as Medical Director of the LPCH Center for Quality and Clinical Effectiveness and Chief Clinical Patient Safety Officer at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. He holds roles in quality improvement leadership, including directing the California Perinatal Quality of Care Collaborative and serving on national committees like the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).
Education: MD from Columbia University Medical School, residency and chief residency in Pediatrics at UCSF, MPH from UC Berkeley, and a fellowship in health services research at Stanford.
Research focuses on pediatric patient safety, translating high reliability organization theory into healthcare, and design thinking for quality improvement. He has published extensively on medication safety, adverse events, and hospital quality interventions.
Awarded the Paul V. Miles Fellow in Quality Improvement (2013) for contributions to pediatric healthcare quality. Advises internationally, including at Great Ormond Street Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Kids.
