Paul Harasymowycz is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine, Université de Montréal. His clinical and research focus spans glaucoma, cataract surgery, and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), with expertise in eye imaging and telemedicine applications. He is affiliated with the CIUSSS de l'Est-de-l'Île-de-Montréal (Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont) and serves as Medical Director of the Fondation de Glaucome du Québec.
- Education: Loyola High School (1983-1988), Marianopolis College (Health Sciences, 1990), McGill University (MDCM, 1995), Residency in Ophthalmology at Université de Montréal (1996-2000), Fellowship in Glaucoma at Wills Eye Hospital (2000-2001), MSc in Clinical Research (2001-2006).
His research explores innovative surgical techniques and telemedicine for glaucoma screening, particularly in high-risk populations. He has co-authored key studies comparing MIGS devices (e.g., Hydrus vs. iStent) and analyzed long-term outcomes of trabecular microbypass stents. He has received multiple professional certifications and is a member of the ASCRS Glaucoma Clinical Committee.
Scientific contributions include peer-reviewed articles on MIGS efficacy, imaging technologies, and telemedicine. He has mentored students such as Roman Meda (MSc, 2015) and Alvine Kamdeu Fansi (PhD, 2010), and is involved in international collaborations, including Haiti glaucoma screening initiatives and a Canada-Brazil research mission.
