Paul Goring

Paul Goring is a Professor in the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU, part of the Faculty of Humanities. He specializes in eighteenth-century British literature and culture, particularly focusing on theatre history, Charles Macklin, Laurence Sterne, and the digitization of news archives. He leads the 'Enlightenment News' research project and the Division of Literature and Cultural History.
Education: BA in English (University of London), MA in English and Art History (University of Wales, Lampeter), PhD in English (University of Wales, Aberystwyth). He has been at NTNU since 1997.
Research interests include: digital archives, eighteenth-century fiction/painting/theatre, Laurence Sterne studies, lottery history, and modern British fiction. He serves on editorial boards for The Shandean and Oxford Bibliographies: British and Irish Literature.
Recent publications span book reviews, academic articles, and edited volumes, with a focus on textual analysis and historical contexts. His work explores intersections between literature, art, and digital humanities. He has supervised numerous master's theses examining topics from Shakespearean reception to contemporary queer narratives.
He leads the Enlightenment News project investigating periodical publications and digital archives, and collaborates on interdisciplinary research initiatives.
