Paul Gardner is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of St Andrews. He holds a unique career trajectory, having worked as a coal miner apprentice before pursuing higher education in Psychology, Sociology, and Philosophy at Sunderland University. His professional journey includes roles in mental health and anti-racism research before joining St Andrews in 1992, where he transitioned to a permanent role and secured promotions. His research focuses on pedagogy, critical reasoning development, and science communication, with extensive outreach activities at science festivals and community events.
He serves as External Examiner at the University of Glasgow and actively contributes to academic networks like the British Association for the Advancement of Science. Gardner has led projects such as the Advanced Quantitative Methods Network (AQMeN) and received grants for initiatives like audio feedback in assessments and extension policy reviews. His work aligns with UN SDGs related to quality education and reducing inequalities.
